Presentation

Welcome to the Montana Tech Department of Biological Sciences. There are dozens of reasons to consider Montana Tech for your education in this dynamic field, including small class sizes, with most consisting of fewer than 25 students with both courses and labs taught by faculty. In addition, Tech faculty are actively involved in a wide range of research projects, providing unique opportunities for undergraduate students to participate by conducting independent investigations or by assisting faculty members. Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, going on to graduate school or entering doing field research, the updated curriculum and strong academic environment at Tech will provide you with the tools you need.

Please take a minute to look around and learn more about the department, our class offerings and our award-winning faculty. We're sure you will find a world of opportunity. If you have any questions, please contact Wilma Immonen, the deparment secretary at the number and email below.

Curriculum

The core of the biological sciences curriculum is designed to provide basic education in biology that prepares students for graduate research and professional schools including medical, pharmacy and veterinary schools. The recently renovated course sequence has been created to encourage one on one faculty - student interaction and to take advantage of research and educational opportunities provided by Tech's combination of state-of-the-art research facilities and mountain location near national parks and wildlife management areas.

As new discoveries are made and new industries emerge at the intersection of scientific disciplines, it is necessary to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to enter and succeed in these new arenas. With this in mind, the Department of Biological Sciences at Montana Tech has worked diligently to design two new emphasis tracks that, while unique in their advanced coursework, share a common foundation of biological and general science.

cellular & molecular track

The Cellular and Molecular Track within the Biological Sciences degree plan allows students to dig deeper into the cellular and molecular basis of life. From Genetics and Immunology to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the curriculum in this track provides those interested in health professions and/or research in the microbiological or biomedical arenas with a solid foundation upon which to build.
