As a Dialysis Technician, you will obtain the clinical and technical skills necessary to directly manage patient care and maintain dialysis equipment. Our program will provide you with a comprehensive foundation to build a solid career in the field of hemodialysis.
You will obtain clinical skills that include: directing the dialysis procedure, monitoring vital signs, administering local anesthetics and medications, watching for complications, and giving emergency assistance if necessary.
Our program will also prepare you for technical duties such as: preparing the dialyzer and getting the delivery system ready for use, monitoring all operating equipment, and completing the necessary equipment cleaning after treatment.
The Dialysis Technician program includes instruction on the following:
- Principles of dialysis
- Anatomy and physiology of the kidney
- Fluid and electrolyte balance
- Hematological aspects
- Infectious diseases
- Dialysis systems and equipment
- Complications of renal failure
- Routine aspects of hemodialysis
- Dietary regulation
- Blood chemistries
You can gain employment as a Dialysis Technician in an outpatient dialysis clinic or hospital that offers hemodialysis care.
