Presentation

Chandler/Gilbert Community College has a successful and proven engineering program. Our job is to ensure that every student who completes this program and transfers to a university as a junior engineering student is better prepared than his or her new peers who started as freshmen at that university. We are able to complete this mission by providing high quality academics through a variety of unique initiatives:

  • Engineering Learning Community
  • Tutoring Center
  • Ongoing practice engineering concepts and design through practice and hands-on
  • Critical thinking
  • Personal development

Student Goals:
  • To acquire the knowledge, skills, and course credits for most of the first two years toward a baccalaureate degree in engineering. The remaining course work can be completed at one for the state universities in Arizona or out-of-state.

  • To upgrade skills or to prepare for transfer on a full-time or part-time basis.

Acquired Skills:
  • Gain effective verbal and written communications skills that enable the student to work in a team environment.
  • Gain computer applications skills
  • Gain science and mathematics skills. Engineering is the application of these skills to the solution of practical problems.
  • Gain teaming skills required in today's engineering work environment.
  • Gain introductory engineering design experience.

Career challenges for engineers:Engineers work in leadership roles to provide practical solutions to many problems facing society. Examples of career challenges include:
  • Increased demand of high quality and safety in products
  • International competition requiring rapid advancement of technology and lower costs.
  • Disposal of waste without polluting the environment.
  • Safe disposal and/or recycling of worn-out or obsolete products
  • Conservation of dwindling natural resources

CGCC offers most of the first two years of a program of study (64 semester credits) leading to a bachelor's degree in various fields of engineering. Additional features of the program include:

  • Articulation (transfer) agreements exist with all three state universities in Arizona.
  • Transfer guides are available form department advisors.
  • Other colleges and universities both in and out of state also accept transfers from the community colleges.
  • Degree programs in Arizona include, but are not limited to, computer systems, electrical (and electronic), mechanical, aerospace, civil, industrial, chemical, biomedical, mining, environmental, and nuclear engineering.
  • Students should consult with a department advisor in planning an academic schedule so as to consider course prerequisites, sequencing, etc.
