Presentation
The Geography department at Lake Tahoe Community College seeks to instill in students an awareness and understanding of the spatial variations of natural and human phenomena across the landscape. Course offerings in the department provide an integrated approach to understanding earth’s physical and cultural features and include:
Physical Geography
Human Geography
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
World Regional Geography
Conservation of Natural Resources
California Geography
Most of these courses satisfy general education requirements in either the physical sciences or social sciences.
The Geography department continues to expand course offerings in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This is an emerging field which utilizes powerful technology to capture, store, transform, manage, analyze and display spatial information. The projection of spatial data in an electronic form allows users to understand the manner in which natural and human elements impact the landscape and provides for the manipulation of the data for planning purposes.
