The average length of time for a student taking a full course load is nine semesters (36 months) in the traditional classroom and online formats and seven semesters (28 months) in the accelerated format.A minimum of 124 semester credit hours is required for graduation.
This course introduces the student to the functions of office management, the forms of organization, and problem solution in office management. Students will become familiar with training and promoting staff, leadership styles, staff orientation, and motivation techniques. Evaluation of staff performance and job analysis will also be stressed. Some class time will be allotted to situations unique to the medical office.
HC 110 Medical Terminology for Managers
This course introduces the foundations of the language of medicine and develops medical vocabulary through the study of the structures, functions, diagnostic procedures, pathology, and treatment procedures of the body systems.
HC 200 Medical Personnel Management
This course uses a practical approach to emphasize knowledge of employee benefits, salary administration, psycho-psychological needs, and written communications systems. Labor management relations and relationships in a medical office will be reviewed.
HC 210 Medical Billing Procedures for Managers
This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the management of billing and insurance reimbursement operations in a medical office setting. The most frequently employed billing procedures and insurance forms are reviewed. It also acquaints students with accounts receivable processes most often used in traditional business offices including medical offices. The various reimbursement methodologies will be emphasized with medical compliance strategies being stressed.
HC 300 Medical Management Systems
This course introduces the student to a computerized medical office management software used in account management, file organization, scheduling, and overall practice management.
HC 310 Medical Law and Ethics
This course introduces the medical professional to the law and ethics pertaining to the medical office. Topics include the law and the courts, contracts, professional liability, medical malpractice, defenses to liability suits, workplace legalities, HIPAA, and medical ethics.
HC 400 Current Issues in Health Care Management
This course is designed to provide a forum for the contemporary issues related to health care management. Regulatory changes, developments in management of human resources, and other current concepts in general health care management are addressed. The importance of a systems approach to change management is covered.
SC 140 Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab
This course will provide students with information about anatomy and physiology relating to each of the following body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular/joints, nervous, and blood and lymphatic systems. Medical terminology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology will be integrated into each body system.
SC 240 Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab
This course will provide students with information about anatomy and physiology relating to each of the following body systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, special senses, urinary, and the male and female reproductive systems. Pathophysiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology will be integrated into each body system.
