Geography
The Geography Department at Western Texas College offers three introductory level courses in a discipline that can enrich students' lives and form the foundation for an exciting and rewarding career. The study of geography offers opportunities for students to prepare for careers in numerous areas of employment. The fields of specialization within the discipline may lead to employment in the private sector of the economy including the fields of marketing, management, finance and economics, among others. Other possible areas of employment include working for various branches of the Federal Government including the Department of Interior with the National Geologic Survey or the Parks Department; the State Department working for the Central Intelligence Agency or other international agencies; the Department of Health working as a medical geographer. There are also numerous opportunities in all levels of education both as a classroom teacher and in administration.
