Saint Joseph College's renowned Institute in Gerontology offers a graduate level certificate program, ideally suited for working professionals in the field of human development. Based on the Institute's understanding that aging is a natural process, the curriculum provides a comprehensive approach to elder care. In particular, the Graduate Certificate in Human Development and Gerontology offers:
A Comprehensive Curriculum
The program of study includes a variety of courses in the fields of health, behavior and public policy, all of which affect the lives of older adults. The Graduate Certificate in Human Development/Gerontology consists of 18 credits.

Students then select nine credits from the following electives:
Social Policies and AgingFamilies in Later YearsHealth-related Aspects of AgingCounseling the AgingNutrition of AgingResearch, Grant Writing, EvaluationEmerging Issues in Aging: Intergenerational, Sexuality, Diversity, Economics, Housing, Bereavement, Literature, Nutrition, Law, Health of the Older Woman, Growth and Development of Men, The Older Worker, Techniques for Life Review and Reminiscence, Advocacy Practicum (required for student new to the field)

The Graduate Certificate in Human Development/Gerontology is designed to provide those already eduacated in basic disciplines with the background needed to work in the field of aging. In order to accommodate the full-time working professional, classes are scheduled during late afternoon hours, evenings, and on weekends.
