The Master of Arts in Applied Social Sciences: Public Administration Option curriculum prepares students for fulfilling careers in urban administration particularly in the dynamic of funding and financing public and non-profit programs and services. Graduates of the program should be able to contribute to the improvement of urban public administration with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the dynamics of funding and administering government programs. The selection of courses will also help students to recognize the internal and external factors that influence administrative decision-making in the urban environment. The curriculum presents a unique approach to the study of public administration that enhances the ability of students to apply their tools of administration in public and non-profit agencies.
The core curriculum is designed to bring all students to a common level of knowledge before entering their area of specialization.
Specialization Courses — 24 Credit Hours Specialization courses provide students with the opportunity to develop greater depth of knowledge in the area of public administration. The curriculum develops a mutual understanding of the objectives, interests and conflicts of government, grant-making and funding of programs, and program administration, and enhances understanding of the urban environment.
