Courses take into account the knowledge and tools necessary to understand today's complex interconnected society and to function effectively within it. The core requirements of the curriculum ensure that every graduate will have a grasp of the most important elements of international affairs, while the elective concentration allows each student to become expert in a specific subject area. Attention is paid to the key trends and players in international affairs, be they governments, international or regional organizations, individuals, or civil society.
Students are required to complete a total of six courses in any one of the five concentrations below, or a combination of four courses from one concentration and two courses from any of the other concentrations. Or, with the approval of the faculty adviser or program director, students may select a maximum of two courses from among designated courses in the graduate programs offered by NYU's Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
NYU Wagner School of Public Service:
Students in the Global Affairs program whose interests are in international development policy and management will have the opportunity to substitute certain electives offered by NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
